Walkers are asked to wear white t-shirts and blue denim bottoms to promote visibility.
Facts:
May is National Foster Care Month. Each year, the Durham County Department of Social Services raises awareness about children in foster care, in Durham County, by hosting the annual Walk for the Children.
Walkers in the 2010 Walk for the Children should meet in the parking lot at the 300 block of E. Main Street, between First Presbyterian Church and St. Phillips Episcopal Church.
Walkers will walk to the Farmer’s Market and surrounding areas and return to the same lot. Walkers are asked to wear white t-shirts and blue denim bottoms to promote visibility.
The walk is free and open to the public.
There are 203 children in foster care in Durham County. Many of the families of children in foster care are in crisis and unable to provide for their well being.
Durham County has 80 foster homes licensed to care for children in need.
