Wagon Wheel Festival & MMH Walk Empty Great Success at Wagon Wheel Fest

Post  atacarrillo Tue Nov 23, 2010 7:26 pm

Just wanted to put my two cents in as a follow up for our Walk & Awareness Drive at WWF.

Wow! A Great time was had by all! I didn't count how many MMH members we had, but it was probably close to 20 or more. Jenni Hogate from the Lake Elsinore area did so much preparation for the walk. She had printer contacts print thousands of MMH info flyers, walk flyers, reusable Professional thick plastic banners we can use again, and bookmarks with MMH website address. These amazing printers did it all for FREE!!! She also got CVS to donate hundreds of bags of swag to give out to peeps. The adult bags had great CVS travel mugs that can be decorated with your own pics, sunscreen, coupons, ect. The childrens bags had a great little activity/coloring book with colors and sunscreen (very appreciated by parents as sunscreen was needed and the coloring books offered a diversion for the kids for a long day at the fest). Jenni got a business to donate cases of water and several other things. She had paint cans donated to collect donations and had the MMH banner printed and put on the cans. Another friend of hers was able to get us the use of a professional vendor booth for our info table. We really looked like an organized charity and we were all just getting our feet wet. The event started Friday night with a campers party at the Diamond Club at the venue. MMH was provided a table to accept donations and encourage peeps to walk with us the next morning. Jenni again with her contagious enthusiasm found a gentleman at the club that offered to match any donations we received up to $1000!!!! We were blown away and inspired to collect as much as possible. After the party wrapped up, 3 of us MMH members went out into the camp area and passed out walk flyers and encouraged more people to walk that didn't attend the party. The next morning we had a fantastic walk in which Jimmy was able to participate with us!!! At the end of the walk, CVS swag, water bottles and Krispy Kreme doughnuts awaited the walkers. Honestly, the best part was at the end. Jimmy gave a great speech encouraging us to continue to spread awareness and recruit more Street Team members to add their numbers to the power of the MMH voice. With large numbers, Jimmy felt we would be heard by politicians and policy makers. He emphasized that it's free and doesn't cost people anything. The more people we have the more awareness we'll create. @CaDevvi (Devvi Silva) made another one of her awesome YouTube videos of his speech that you can catch online. After the walk there were dozens of left over Krispy Kremes and The Carrillo kids went out into the campground to pass them out with MMH flyers and accepted donations. Later that afternoon the Festival and music began. Cyndi E. and Jessica Y. spent tireless hours both days manning the booth to sell the MMH merchandise and talk to interested people. The booth looked awesome with the banners, donation cans, MMH flyers, bookmarks and info on the Boys & Girls Clubs (which were the recipient of the donations that we collected). We had a bowl of candy and sunscreen out for people to take as well. There was also a laptop playing the MMH slideshow. Alot of members were available to work the booth and some did, but due to the limited space the idea to go amoungst the crowd and give out swag and bookmarks was born. We encouraged people to listen to Jimmy's set and his message and told them he would inspire them to check MMH out online. People love free stuff and love to be inspired by a heartwarming story Smile Jenni's husband also made an awesome BBQ lunch for MMH members and they extended it to the stadium workers (security and such). I believe that created an incredible amount of good will with the venue and promoter. GREAT idea Hogate family! I was incredibly proud of the representation that everyone made for MMH that entire weekend. I'm still not sure how much was money was raised, but I do know that people heard the MMH story and loved it!

A good time was had by ALL! A heartfelt thanks to the Hogate family and all their friends for everything they did that weekend for us. Thank You to Jimmy for taking the time to walk with us and once again inspire us even more. And to Jessica Y. & Cyndi E. for the long hours they put in at the booth. And thank you to all the MMH members that travelled from afar, walked and volunteer'd to make this event such a success!
